Elizabeth Peyton - 985 Words

Elizabeth Peyton Elizabeth Peyton is an American painter who rose to popularity in the mid 1990’s. She was born in Danbury, Connecticut in 1965, where her father and stepmother had a candle-making business. She was born with only two fingers on her right hand, and so she learned to draw with her left hand. In interviews, she has said that celebrities fascinated her even as a child, particularly the tennis and ice-skating stars of the 1970s, but her interests took a musical turn when her older sister introduced her to the seminal British punk band The Clash. Peytons fascination with painting and drawing people began in childhood and continued throughout her years in art school at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. In the early 1990s†¦show more content†¦Peytons small, jewel-like portraits are also intensely compassionate, intimate, and even personal. Together, her works capture an art that reflects the cultural climate of the late-twentieth and early-twenty-first centuries. An oil on canvas representing John Lennon was sold for a record $800 000 in 2006 (relate back to figure 2). â€Å"A beautiful presentation of the stylish artists celebrated drawings and paintings† described here by Laura Hoptman. She usually works from photographs. In the case of Kurt Cobain, the Nirvana singer who killed himself in 1994, she used images from a commemorative issue of Rolling Stone. I ask if she has had the chance to meet her idols - those who are still around - and paint them from life. I dont really separate those pictures out, she says, with a hint of impatience. I dont call them rock star paintings. I think of it more like people who make things. So why not paint welders or carpenters? Theres something in music that fascinates me - how it communicates emotion so immediately. Thats something I wanted in my paintings. Whatever was in Liam Gallaghers voice, I wanted to capture - more than how he looked. They are also testaments to Peytons deeper passion for beauty in all its forms - from the elevated to the everyday. Ultimately, Peytons paintings are evidence of a dedication to the creation of a new kind of popular art. â€Å"You couldShow MoreRelated Analyses of Short Stories Essay examples4756 Words   |  20 Pagesand â€Å"no fields bordered it, no dwelling anywhere†. Marketing Management Personal Branding Management

Question: Describe about the Marketing Management for Personal Branding Management. Answer: Introduction In present scenario, brands are considered as the heart of business and marketing strategy. If the company sells the similar offer over the product just like its competitors then in that case customers will be indifferent and will buy the product which will be most accessible and cheapest of all. The main aim of marketing is to build a preference for the brand of the company. If a brand is appeared to be superior in the market, then the customer will pay high for it and prefer that brand only. There are also various implications which a brand manager faces in developing and marketing the brand (Keller, Parameswaran and Jacob, 2011). Branding and Brand Management A brand can be symbolized in the form of a design, symbol, sign or term. It is intended to recognize the services or merchandises of one vendor or group of vendors and to distinguish them from those of opponents. By facilitating the new customers and retaining the older ones the successful brands develop growth and create wealth. For successful branding, companies are adopting various brand management techniques and tools for making their products and services more reliable and recognized. In branding a company tries to build its the image of its products and services so robust that the customers can identify the products with just by a sign or design (Keller, Parameswaran and Jacob, 2011). The differentiation strategy adopted by the company can be called as branding. In branding there are specifically 3Cs i.e. constancy, consistency and clarity. The first C which stands for constancy states that the brand must be visible to the potential customers otherwise it is of no use. The one major aspect of all the strong brands is that they remain constant in the market so that they can always be present for the prospects as well as for the customers. They dont hide anyways. For example, Coke is a product whose target market is the entire world. This is the only reason that one cannot remain bare from its familiar logo or its bright red color. It is visible that people walks down the restaurants, street etc. carrying a coke. There are various TV advertisements, billboards, advertisements in movies etc. which shows the popularity and demand for COKE and that is why it is considered as one of the renowned and strongest brand worldwide (Anand, 2016). The second C stands for Consistency which states that a robust and successful brand always remains consistent. They always work as per their saying. For example the basic purpose of the Volvo is to provide safety to the customers. So with changing model, the main purpose also gets stronger instead of getting dim. The third C stands for Clarity, a successful brand always remain clear about their products and services. They possess an understanding for their promise of value. It allows them to facilitate and create loyalty among a potential group of customers. For example, Volvo always remains secured and safe for the customers instead of being luxurious and sporty as they comprehend their exclusive promise of value (Philbrick and Cleveland, 2015). In branding there are various challenges which are associated with it such as the brand challenge which is generally experienced by the established and old brands where new players try to hit them with marketing communication, innovativeness and rationalization. Another challenge in branding is related to marketing function, according to this the marketing strategies adopted by the companies are required to reframe or change so that the changing needs of the customers and increasing sophistication could be matched. The major challenge of communication and media affects the brand in a larger context too. There are other various challenges also such as increased competition, complex product portfolios, savvy consumers, need for simplification etc (John, 2016). There are number of implications of the brand manager in branding such as analyzing and evaluating the target markets where the business is operating, evaluating the changing needs and preferences of the customers so that relevant modifications could be made in the products and services, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the competitors brand as well developing of marketing strategies to make the brand much stronger (Selnes, 2013). There are several times when the brand managers made managerial decisions on the basis of incomplete knowledge and information as they are not aware of the relative competition in the market, the new players, changed needs of the customers and the other prevailing issues and this creates various challenges for the company and the brand to sustain. There can be consequences like diminishing the popularity of the brand, declining in the companys revenue and customer base, facing competition and squat sales. To attain huge benefits of strong branding, the brand managers are required to fulfill its obligations and implications regarding branding (Rosenbaum-Elliott, et al., 2015). With effective strategies and efficient approaches towards branding several benefits can be attained by the company such as it develops reliability and emotional bonding with the services and products offered, gives the base to the company to sell products at relatively high price, increase customer base, facilitate potential customers, build image and name recognition of the product as well as the company and helps in articulating the values associated with the brand (Urde, 2016). All these benefits could be attained by strong and robust branding and effective decision making by the brand managers. In marketing management branding can be said as the essence of revenue generation and image building of the company, its products and its services (Franzak, Makarem and Jae, 2014). Conclusion Brand management in todays world is emerging out as one of the most successful factors behind the growth and success of a product or a company. It helps in making the brand recognized at various platforms both domestically and internationally. The strategies used must be innovative, technologically updated, matched with the needs of the customers and competition driven. For this there is a requirement that brand managers must be attentive enough to catch the changing needs of the timeframe and make the managerial decisions accordingly. Effective branding helps the company to achieve huge success as well as to sustain in the market for a longer period of time (Kapferer, 2012). References Anand, V. Descartes discourse on method Essay Example For Students

Descartes discourse on method Essay Understanding Descartes Method of DoubtClear your mind, if you will, of everything you have ever seen or known to be true. To begin understanding Rene Descartes method of doubt, you need to suspend all prejudice and prior judgments and start with a clean slate for the purpose of discovering some ultimate truth on which to base all thought. (Kolak, Pg.225). Discouraged with much skepticism from his own beliefs, Descartes was embarrassed of his own ignorance. He set out to try and accomplish the task of finding an absolute truth in which he would base his beliefs. Placing upon himself a task to find an axiom or absolute truth to base all thought, he ventured as a youth in travel to collect a variety in experiences to derive some profit in which he would be benefited. (Kolak, Pg.225). When analyzing the method of doubt you must take complex conceptions into their constituents until the irreducible elements are simple, clear, and distinct ideas, and show that all such basic ideas can be derived from, or can depend upon, the primary consciousness of a being that it thinks. (Durant, Pg.639). Two types of knowingFirst, understanding that there are conceptually two types of knowledge or knowing aposteriori, and apriori, you can further understand where Descartes is coming from with his representations of his elucidations. Knowledge that is based solely on the sense and reasoning that comes through the senses is understood as aposteriori, and its foil a priori is understanding through reasoning. At this point, Descartes has already discarded aposteriori knowledge on the basis that his senses are deceiving and it is not a credible way to base ones beliefs. (Descartes, Pg.19). On the other end of the spectrum, apriori knowledge ,which is an understanding based on reasoning, is a more efficient way of explaining the method of doubt presented by Descartes. Method of Doubt Step OneOn the journey to find truth to base all thought upon, Descartes explains his first step in doi ng so. Never accept anything for true which I did not clearly know to be such; that is to say, carefully to avoid precipitancy and prejudice, and to comprise nothing more in my judgment than what was presented to my mind so clearly and distinctly as to exclude all ground of doubt.(Kolak, Pg.228). Assuming that everything you see is fictitious, Descartes believed he had no senses at all; body, shape, extension, motion, and place are unreal.(Weissman, Pg.23). Our senses have failed us all at one point or another in our lives, so why use the senses as a base for thought? The most famous quote and philosophy by Descartes in history ever, Je pense, donc je suis, cogito ergo sum (Durant, Pg.639). I think, therefore I am was the first step towards a basis to understand truth, and leaning away from truth through the senses. Method of Doubt Step TwoThe second argument that Descartes defends is another question posed towards the senses. How can we take anything as real if our dreams cannot be deciphered from reality? In dreams there lies deception by similar illusions found in reality. So we must make sense that there are no certain marks by which the state of waking can ever be distinguished from sleep. (Kolak, Pg.239). Descartes recollects sitting next to the fire and feeling the warmth and the realness that related to it, but we still feel the warmth of the fire outside the dream. Having already a preconceived notion that there exists a supreme power of God, Descartes says, I cannot avoid conceding that, at least if he wishes, it is easy for him to make err even about things that I think I see most clearly with my minds eye. (Weissman, Pg.32). He basically states in his meditations that if there is a God, and he is perceived as good, why would he deceive our thoughts? This brings up the evil deceiver argument. If we can only know that our existence is real, who is to say that there is not an outside force that makes of the rest of our reality that we supposedly live? If our dreams are just distorted pieces of our reality and our reality is merely a show put on by the evil deceiver, we know for certain we cannot base our beliefs on what we see and the tools unto which we use to perceive it; i.e. extension, hands, and eyes. .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab , .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .postImageUrl , .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab , .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab:hover , .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab:visited , .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab:active { border:0!important; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab:active , .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ufe620daa1c5cf7a7c0fd115c5fa38cab:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Polymers EssayConclusionDescartes makes it clear that we cannot be certain of anything. The method of doubt brings us to understand this better by giving a set of guidelines to follow to systematically understand and get closer to some kind of truth. By trying to find some truth to base all thoughts on, Descartes tried to find an absolute truth by coming to the realization that nothing he believed was of any truth. Although not finding much truth in his journeys, he found a systematic way to come closer to finding truth. Descartes was presented with a problem of not knowing anything, and by creating the method of doubt he came closer to finding the truth. Works Cited PageD urant, Will ; Ariel. (1961). A life changing experience free essay sample

The arrival I went to boarding school when I was ten; actually I went on my tenth birthday. Don’t feel bad for me, I enjoyed it. I still remember the September autumn I arrived, it was a Sunday. I tend to associate Sundays with corn flan, since that was THE main cuisine for Sundays. It was breezy, cold and the roads were slippery. It was an all girls, small independent school in Nigeria. I waved briskly at my family and ran off the roads- ready to tackle the new world. Homesickness The first night at school I completely changed. Being away from home was quite a shock. The second day didn’t go so well either. The bells rang at five am; I had never woken up at five am before. The first day had been all exciting but then the novelty started to wear off and I realized I was on my own- well not exactly on my own but mum and dad were not there. We will write a custom essay sample on A life changing experience or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I fully understood why I was at boarding school; it was just because it was a place where I would learn to become a woman, a leader as well as a follower and a strong Christian. I didn’t have a problem with that; I completely understood. So there wasn’t any conflict. I was just missing home, missing the comforts of home. But as the weeks went on, I got used to it and made a new home away from home, I made a new family. The new family I’ve known the people there for three years. I had the best and worst time of my life with them. I met different type of personalities from all over the country. The days we spent together were exceptional. We would rush up and down the thick woods to classes, sports, dining or prep (study time). My bed was the meeting site since it had a magnificent view of the school’s main entrance with its tall fir trees and courtyard, where on Saturdays we could see everyone passing by as we watch from my bed. I remember the dances we ha d during social night; they were breathtaking and very relaxing. The new principal During my first year in boarding school, we got a new principal; she was short and wore thick-rimmed glasses. She came with a new life and made things tougher. She came with new ideas such as eating breakfast after two classes, having morning prep on Saturday, having inspections and fasting for the rest of the afternoon. She also established a new system were the entire school had to cook a meal weekly, we also had morning chores. I remember her checking our cups during breakfast to make sure we were consuming the right amount of sugar. She believed in a life full of hardship and her definition of independence was the best ability to cope in times of hardship and having fun while doing it. I know it may sound odd that kids have to put up with this form of living but in a way it can benefit people. I actually liked her and I’m thoroughly grateful for the things I learnt there. It formed my chara cter. I remember precisely my first house chore- bathroom cleaner, I didn’t know how to do it at first but I learnt. Being Conservative Learning how to be conservative was important. We saved water-only allowed to use a bucket of water to bathe; current- lights went off at 10pm and don’t come back on until 5am and recycled a lot. Most significantly we learnt to save and be conscious of how we spent money. The school came up with a system- we started spending tickets. We were given tickets worth of twenty dollars per week and were not allowed to spend more. Although it seemed pretty absurd and impossible at first, it actually made sense later on. On going solo I left the school at the beginning of my senior school year. My mother got a new job abroad and I moved there with her. It’s been okay, it’s been a test for the lesson I learnt in boarding school. It made me see how I act in difference- or lack a lack of organization, as it were. I’ve found m y strength which is independence. I’ve built my own character and relying on anyone has not been an option for me. Boarding school was an amazing experience I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. There is truly a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m proud it’s made me stand out among my classmates and be who I am- a LEADER.

Burger King Core Competencies Essays

Burger King Core Competencies Essays Burger King Core Competencies Paper Burger King Core Competencies Paper Assess the strategic alternative used by the firm Burger King is the world’s largest flame broiled fast food restaurant chain. As of mid-2009, it operated about 12000 restaurants in all 50 states and in 74 countries and U. S. territories worldwide through a combination of company-owned and franchised operations, which together employed nearly 400,000 people worldwide. Two major ways in which Burger King differentiates itself from competitors are the way it cooks hamburgers by its flame broiled method as opposed to grills that fry and the options it offers customers as to how they want their burgers. They also differentiated itself with some innovative advertising campaigns through the years, such as its use of a figure of a man who is the Burger â€Å"King†. In looking for new countries to enter, Burger King looks most favourably at those with large populations (especially of young people), high consumption of beef, availability of capital to franchisees for growth, a safe pro-business environment and availability of a potential franchisee with experience and resources. Outside of burger King’s America’s group (United states and Canada), 37.o percent of the countries and 24.6 percent of the restautants are in Latin American and Caribbean group, yet theses countries accounted for only 13.5 percent of the non Americas group revenue in fiscal 2009. This is largely because many of these countries have a very small populations. So why did Burger King develop a presence in these markets, even though at this writing it is not in countries with much bigger populations such as India,Russia and South Africa. The answer is largely due to a location factor. Burger King remains headquartered in Miami because so many people from Latin American and the Caribbean come to or through Miami, Burger King’s reputation spilled over to that area early on.
